I set my camera up on a tripod and then sat in the sand.  A family was gathered at the rocks.  The little boy was building a sandcastle and his sister clad all in pink was mesmerized by the ocean and kept picking up a handful of sand and running up to the rocks to throw it at the waves.  This went on for quite some time until the parents were ready to leave.
They started yelling for her.  She would look at them and then defiantly return to her task at hand.  So they resorted to the “we’re leaving!!  You’re going to be here all alone!”  And I had to stifle a laugh because she paid no heed even as they disappeared over the horizon. Nor did she appear frightened.  She continued to stand in the sand and watch the waves or to run along the rocks throwing sand.  The parents finally returned to scoop her up amid loud protestations from her but not before I caught this photo.
I think my first reaction was to want to see her as a spoiled little brat. But she made me smile. It’s like she knew what was more important. And for her, standing at the oceans edge alone was what mattered. I can so relate.
